A few new and interesting titles for those who like to explore abroad within the confines of books, rather than traditional methods involving customs/passports etc:
"Good Thief's Guide to Amsterdam" by Chris Evans is an intense diamond caper, taking you through the narrow streets and winding canals of Amsterdam, with a hero who is a thief, and whose lawyer also sports a surprise identity. Having been to Amsterdam a few years back, I enjoyed the return visit to familiar places, and exploration into areas I never would have otherwise ventured.
"Last Rituals: an Icelandic novel of secret symbols, medieval witchcraft and modern murder" by Yrsa Sigurdardottir--Thora is a lawyer who investigates the death of a student at the university, and is drawn into solving a medieval mystery brought to light by his research. His method of death is unusual, as are markings on his body, and his friends run a coven of witchcraft so they too are suspect in the crime. Read this on a cold winter night, and you can taste the chill of Iceland through the pages. This thriller has great movie possibilities.
