Book Pages
It is cold here, and we are somewhat snowbound in the woods. So when I picked up my latest books on request from the public library, and discovered Travels in Siberia by Ian Frazier, I put everything else down and plunged into the "hot, dusty, buggy" days of Siberian summers, and the sable nights of frigid Siberian winters. I have to tell you, it was an awesome read. 528 pages including footnotes and index. Lots of transliterated Russian, and wonderful stories of interactions with the native tribes of the taiga, and reindeer herders and gulag remains. Having been to Russia on several visits, in the winter times, while reading this book, I could once again conjure up those same unique fragrances of diesel oil/old tea leaves/cucumber peelings/etc. in the air, even in my sitting room. Want a great travel book and don't want the headaches of making reservations? Grab this book and start reading!
